Mrs. Carol Jean Buchanan, 68, of Anderson, Missouri, departed this life on Monday, January 4, 2016, at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kansas, after a long illness.
Carol entered this life on October 18, 1947, in Wichita, Kansas, daughter of Grace (Mills) Atha and the late Norman Atha. She was raised in Mulvane, Kansas and was a graduate of Wichita High School. She furthered her education at Butler County Community College, receiving an associate degree in business. On March 22, 1977, she was united in marriage to Dennis Dwayne Buchanan, Sr. and together they shared thirty years before his passing on August 4, 2007. Shortly after she and Dennis were married they made their home in Towanda, Kansas for several years. After Dennis retired they moved to Anderson, Missouri, in 2002. Throughout her life she worked as a bookkeeper and owned numerous small businesses. She enjoyed activities with her family and attending area casinos. Carol was of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her father; her husband, Dennis Buchanan, Sr.; a son, Gary Jaquis; and a brother, Jim Flescher.
Carol is survived by four children, Dennis Buchanan, Jr. and wife, Iva, of Anderson, Missouri, Madena Risenhoover of Rogers, Arkansas, Roland Buchanan and wife, Janelle, of El Dorado, Kansas and Robin McDaniel and husband, Dale, of Augusta, Kansas; ten grandchildren, Ronnie, Nichole and Kyle Jaquis, Jimmy Mills, Jennifer Winchell, Rachel McDaniel, Andrew Buchanan, Kodi Buchanan, Bebett Buchanan and Matthew Risenhoover; eight great grandchildren, Harper Jaquis, Eden Jaquis, Corbin Ashcraft, Lydia Jaquis, Avery Winchell, Jensen Winchell, Mason Risenhoover and Evelyn Buchanan; her mother, Grace Atha of Mulvane, Kansas; a brother, Randy Atha also of Mulvane; a sister Sherry Atha of El Dorado, Kansas; a daughter in-law, Cindy Jaquis of Harker Heights, Texas; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Buchanan are 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 8, 2016, in the Anderson Chapel of the Ozark Funeral Homes with Pastor Casey Borger officiating. Burial will follow in the Union Cemetery near Stella, Missouri. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 5-7:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
