Maurice W. “Butch” Hood, age 69, of Joplin, Mo. passed away at 11:45 a.m. Friday, January 15, 2016 at Freeman Hospital West following a short illness. Butch was born September 19, 1946 in Joplin and was a lifetime resident. He was a self-employed Auto Body Mechanic. Butch was a member of the College View Baptist Church.
Butch married Marie Vandaveer December 26, 1987 in Joplin and she survives. Additional survivors include two daughters, Angie Gentry and husband Kevin, Joplin, and Jessica Vandaveer, Carterville, Mo., two sons, Mark Hood and wife Christina, Phoenix, Az. and Walter “Van” Vandaveer and wife Shannon, Olathe, Ks. and six grandchildren, Daniel and Seth Gentry, Gavin Hood, and Riley, Emily, and Abby Vandaveer.
Butch has been taken for cremation. Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Kevin Melton officiating. Cremation arrangements were entrusted to the Mason-Woodard Mortuary and Crematory of Joplin, Mo.
