Lewis F. Shumate, 82, Broken Arrow, OK, died January 19, 2016, following a sudden illness.
Lewis was born March 2, 1933 in Neosho, MO, the son of Franklin M. and Thelma (Freeman) Shumate. He served in the U.S. Air Force and had worked as truck driver and tour bus driver. He was a licensed pilot and enjoyed flying and was an avid reader.
Lewis married Patsy (Letts) Shumate in 1956 at Miami, OK and together they had four children, Kelly Kirby and Kathy D. Shumate of Tulsa, OK; William Douglas Shumate of Houston, TX and Lisa Norman of Tulsa, OK. In addition, Lewis is survived by one brother, William Shumate of Joplin, MO; three sisters, Annette Judd and Oleva Whitaker of Granby and Juanita Jackson of
St. Augustine, FL; nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, John Monroe Shumate.
