Esther Rowland, age 97, of Asbury passed away on Sunday, January 17, 2016 at her residence.
She was born on November 1, 1918 in Dawson, North Dakota to Sanborn Niles and Bessie (Bunker) Niles. Esther was a housewife, and attended New Providence Baptist Church. She was very proud to be a guard on the 1937 girls basketball state championship team in Dawson, North Dakota.
Esther married Lloyd Rowland on June 12, 1939 and he preceded her in death on July 20, 1992. She was also preceded in death by her parents and one son, Gary Rowland in 2007. Esther is survived by her sons, Jim Rowland and wife Marlin of Asbury, Michael Rowland and wife Marilyn of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; a daughter, Sandra Kay and husband Ron of Bozeman, Montana; 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 22, 2016 at 2:00 PM in the New Providence Baptist Church. The visitation will be held on Friday from 1:00 PM to service time at the church. Burial will follow in Carl Junction Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the New Providence Baptist Church in her memory.
