Naoma Schlichting

Naoma Irene Schlichting, age 90, of Lamar, Missouri, died Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at Truman Healthcare Center.

Naoma was born February 18, 1925 at Girard, Kansas to James Andrew Atkinson and Nettie Mae (Lowe) Atkinson and attended country school in Jasper County. On June 30, 1943, she married Reynold Aldolph “Slick” Schlichting to which four sons were born.

As a homemaker, she always raised a large vegetable garden every summer and in the winter, she would sew beautiful quilts. She was a member of the Dorcas Circle Quilting Group at the Jasper United Methodist Church, a member of the Red Hat Society, and the Surviving Spouses Group.

Naoma leaves behind three sons, Charles (Becky) Schlichting, Jasper, Missouri, Steve (Sharon) Schlichting, Taborville, Missouri, and Doug (Elaine) Schlichting, Lamar, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Scott Schlichting, Athena Hughes, Matt (Angie) Schlichting, Mike (Katie) Schlichting, Kendall (Matt) Heumader, Randy Schlichting, and Dusty Schlichting; seven great grandchildren, William Hughes, Michaela Schlichting, Taylor Hughes, Megan Schlichting, Andrew Schlichting, Dalton Schlichting, and Waylin Schlichting; and one great-great grandchild, Trinity Hughes.

Preceding her in death was her beloved husband, Reynold “Slick” Schlichting on June 22, 1992 and a son, Robert Schlichting on July 2, 1989.

Funeral Service will be 10:00 am Saturday, January 9, 2016 at Daniel Funeral Home with burial to follow at Paradise Cemetery.
