Gertrude Brown

Gertrude ‘Gerty’ Brown, 99, Stark City, died peacefully in her sleep on January 3, 2016 at her home. 

She was born April 4, 1916 in Neosho, Missouri, the daughter of Joshua and Martha (West) Cole. Gerty was a lifelong area resident and was the owner and operator of the Brown Derby Restaurant in Newtonia for 20 years. She was an avid bowler and loved to fish. She bowled on travel leagues, in national tournaments and on Clark Funeral Home’s team for over 40 years. 

Gerty married C.C.‘Tuck’ Brown on October 23, 1932 in Pineville, Missouri and he preceded her in death on August 6, 1965. She is survived by one daughter, Wilma Miller of Stark City; three grandchildren, Susan Willoughby, Lynn Judd and Crystal Jones and five great grandchildren. Gerty is preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Judy (Geller Lyster) Moss; two brothers, Loyd and Morris Cole; three sisters, Susie Lundstrom, Alice Balay and Juanita Queener and one grandson, Rock Hughes.
