Kathryn M. Maurer, age 91, of Joplin, passed away on Saturday January 23, 2016, at Freeman West, following an illness.
Kathryn was born on June 3, 1924 in Tulsa, Ok. The daughter of the late Guy McMackin and Linnie (Mason) McMackin Stabler. She graduated from Will Rogers High School in 1941. She married Delbert Maurer on October 9, 1948 in Tulsa, Ok., together they raised six children. They moved to Joplin in 1954. She worked for the Joplin Health Department and then went to work as an Administrative Assistant for Economic Security. She retired in 1996.
She had a deep respect for the military and in her early years she served in the USO. She was a longtime member of Villa Heights Christian Church. She served as a volunteer for the Freeman Auxiliary and was a member of the Bright Christmas Dreamers Club. She enjoyed being a grandmother and great-grandmother.
Kathryn is survived by one son, John Maurer, Joplin; four daughters, Donna Garrigan and husband Dennis, Joplin, Debra Fee and wife Colleen, Greeley, Co., Diana Maurer, Joplin, and Denise Thomas, Joplin; one brother, Guy Louis McMackin and wife Jo Ann, Vancouver, Wa.; sister-in-law, Rosemary McMackin, Corona, Ca.; five grandchildren, Bonnie Dugger and husband Jamie, Billy Garrigan, and wife Karli, Jennifer Swann and husband Jared, Wesly Hardin and wife Vicky, and Sam Thomas; eight great-grandchildren, Blanton, Kaelyn, Bobby, Kennedi, Elizabeth, James, Jace, and Katie; and many other family members and friends, all of whom she dearly loved. She was preceded in death by her husband Delbert Maurer; a son, Billy Maurer; and a brother, Bob McMackin.
