Carol J. Steppe, age 78, Webb City, passed away at 11:30 a.m. Friday, February 19, 2016 at Webb City Health and Rehabilitation Center after an illness.
Carol was born September 6, 1937 in Joplin to the late Frances Louis McCoy and Ida Pearl Conner McCoy and had lived in the Joplin area all of her life.
She worked as a bar manager for the Joplin Elks Lodge for 25 years. Following her retirement, she went back to work at Freeman Health Systems and worked until the age of 74.
Carol collected Precious Moments Figurines; enjoyed gardening; loved to cook and got a particular thrill teaching others how to cook. She cherished the time spent with her family and had an overall general love of people. Carol never met a stranger.
She married Robert Dudley Steppe on December 3, 1979 in Miami, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on June 21, 2005.
Carol was also preceded in death by a sister, Doris Maynard and a brother, Clifford McCoy.
She is survived by two daughters, Brenda Endicott Schultz and her husband, Jim, Joplin, Vicki Wilcox and her husband, Carl, Carl Junction; a son, Norman Endicott and his wife, Denise, Webb City; two step sons, Doug Steppe and his wife, Peggy, Galena, Kansas, Rob Steppe, Oregon; a step daughter, Noel Ingram and her husband, John, Oregon; one brother, Bill McCoy, Joplin; best friend, Betty Meadows, Joplin; 12 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.
Services are planned for Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel. Landon Justice will officiate. Interment will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. The grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6-7:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to Life Choices, or to the American Cancer Society, both in care of Parker Mortuary.
