Helen Marie Laura Emma (Meyer) Gold , 92 of Joplin passed away on February 20th.
Helen was born in Mount Vernon, Missouri on October 30th,1923 to John Meyer and Anna Marie Hagemeier. Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Joe Ben Gold of Joplin.
She is survived by: Sister, Deloris Edwards, Joplin; Daughter, Gloria Hefley and husband Jim of Joplin; Daughter Peggy Cossman and husband, Robert of Tulsa; Son, Bob and wife Connie of Platte City, Mo.; Son, Craig and wife Mary of Joplin. In addition her family included 10 Grandchildren, 20 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great Great Grandson.
Helen graduated from Monett High School and played Bugle in the marching band.
She worked over the years at Macy’s in the Jewelry department, Zelda’s Cleaners as a seamstress and in operating the press. She also assisted her husband in the management of Gold Building Supply Company of Joplin.
Helen was an excellent seamstress and made beautiful things with her old treadle sewing machine handed down from her family. All of the family benefitted from her hand-made Halloween costumes, place mats, drapes, dresses, table cloths and hemmed clothing to fit. She was also an avid craft enthusiast making wonderful items for all holiday seasons.
She was a member of the Forest Park Baptist Church, a member of the Eastern Star and a Beauceant. She was always involved in the PTA and met for years with the original group of mothers after her children had all graduated from school.
Helen was always positive, smiling and full of energy. She loved her church, volunteering for many activities. She was a wonderful mother, always sacrificing for her boys and girls. She was a great homemaker and made the home a happy place for family and friends.
Services are planned for Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Forest Park Baptist Church Chapel. Gale Ludwig will officiate. Interment will follow at Maple Park Cemetery, Aurora, Missouri. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6-7:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel. Pallbearers will be Mark Hefley, Cory Koenig, Cody Hefley, Brad Gold, Brett Schwab and Eric Waggoner. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army or to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, both in care of Parker Mortuary.
