Mary L. (Bowman) Townsend, age 91 of Webb City, Missouri passed away Thursday February 11, 2016 following a decline in health.
She was born February 12, 1924 in Gideon, Missouri to Mr. and Esie (Smith) Whitaker.
Mary worked for Elder's Shirt Manufacturing in Webb City, Missouri for many years as well as raising a family of two sons and two daughters. She loved cats and taking care of the birds. She collected leaves and loved to burn her trash in a barrel outdoors.
She married Freeman Townsend in October 1939 and he preceded her in death in November 1985. She was also preceded in death by one son, Douglas Ray Townsend, and one daughter, Linda Lou Townsend.
Mary is survived by one son, Dwight Freeman Townsend and wife Mary, Tolar, Texas; one daughter, Betty Wilton and husband Richard, Aurora, Colorado; 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Wednesday February 17, 2016 at the Hedge-Lewis-Goodwin Funeral Home with Rev. Jarel Burnside officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery Webb City, Missouri. Online condolences may be sent to our websitewww.hedgelewis.com.
The family extends great thanks to her Guardian Angels, John Dalton and Sylvia Briggs and her special neighbor, Amanda. A very special thank you to the grandchildren who helped Mary, and made her life a little more enjoyable.
