Phillip J. Thamert Sr., age 78, of Joplin, Mo., passed away on Monday February 8, 2016, at his home, surrounded by his family, following an illness.
Phillip was born on July 17, 1937 in Texarkana, Tx., the son of the late Theodore and Vera (Phillips) Thamert. He graduated from Texarkana High School and went on to receive his Masters in Accounting from East Texas University. He worked for Leggett-Platt as a Division Controller for 26 years retiring in 1999 He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Phillip married Carol Millis in 1955. She preceeded him in death in 2003. He then married Jolynn Shaffer on May 26, 2005 in Kansas City, and she survives. Additional survivors include, one son, Phillip J. Thamert Jr., of Carthage; one son-in-law, Mark Hoskins of Joplin, one daughter, Lucy Adams, Joplin, Mo.,one step daughter, Wendy Hanshaw and her husband Jerry of Germany., one sister, Julia Young, Sand Springs, Ok.; fourteen grandchildren, and six great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his first wife Carol Gene, two daughters, Kerri Victoria Marshtown in 1993, and Angela Kay Hoskins in 2014, and a brother Ted Thamert.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the Immanuel Luthern Church. Pastor Gregory Mech and Pastor Barry Kolb will officiate. Burial will be in Park Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary.
