Charles A. “Chief” Nance, age 67, of Joplin, Mo. passed away at 2:35 a.m. Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at his residence.
Chief was born June 10, 1948 in Springfield, Colorado. He had lived in Joplin since 1988. Chief served in the U.S. Army for 21 years. Following his discharge, he served 15 years teaching Jr. ROTC at Joplin High School, retiring in 2003.
Chief is survived by his wife Sharon, one son, Ronald Schum and wife Annetta, Manhattan, Ks., four daughters, Amee’ Criddle and husband Bob, Vacaville, Ca., and Charlotte Nance, Heather Nance, and Ceason Nance, all of Joplin, one step daughter, Melanie Spillman, Joplin, five brothers, Roger Bone and wife Paula, John Bone, and Keith Nance, all of Joplin, Jack Bone and wife Lavone, Webb City, Mo., and Calvin Joe Nance and wife Gisele, Watts, Ok., three sisters, Georgia Beth Milar, Joplin, Chris Edgerton and husband Randy, Newport News, Va., and Kristy Trevizo and husband Billy, Amarillo, Tx., 16 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 1 step great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his mother, Naomi “Tots” Bone, his step-father, Jack Bone, his biological father, Keith Nance, two sons, Keith Schum and Joshua Nance, and a brother, Robert Nance.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Calvary Baptist Church. Private burial with Military Honors will be in the Ferguson-Bone Cemetery in Pineville, Mo. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the Mortuary.
Memorial contributions are requested to the Army Emergency Relief in care of the Mortuary.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mason-Woodard Mortuary of Joplin, Mo.
