Mary L. Baucom, 96, Carthage, passed away February 11, 2016 at the Methodist Manor Nursing Center, Tulsa, OK. Mary Lorene Baucom was born January 23, 1920 at the family home, NE of Pierce City, MO, a daughter of the late David Hunnell and Emma Barnes Hunnell. She attended Possum Trot Elementary School and was a graduate of Pierce City High School, Class of 1940. She married Jack N. Baucom on October 13, 1940 in Carthage; he preceded her in death in 1998. Mary was a store clerk, floor supervisorand office manager for S. H. Kress and Ben Franklin stores in Carthage for 36 years. She was a member of the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, Pierce City, MO and with her husband, Jack, became a member of the First Baptist Church, Carthage. She was a member of the Dependable Sunday School Class, worked as a volunteer in the McCune-Brooks gift shop for several years. She loved to cook, sew and attend class meeting and church.
Survivors include a daughter; Karen Baucom Tucker and husband, Stan, Broken Arrow, OK and a son, Neel Baucom and wife, Janice, Carthage; a brother, Jerry Hunnell and wife, Naomi, Springfield, MO; four grandchildren, Kim Williamson and husband, Bobby, Broken Arrow, OK, Steve Tucker and wife, Melisa, Oklahoma City, OK, Jim Baucom and wife, Jean, Lenexa, KS, Justin Baucom and wife, Kelsey, Carthage; seven great grandchildren, Tristan Williamson, Trey Williamson, Landry Tucker, Taylor Tucker, Anna Jean Baucom, Charlie Baucom and Sagan Baucom. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jack, four sisters and six brothers.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 – 7:00 PM, Wednesday, February 17 at Knell Mortuary, Carthage. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, February 18 at the First Baptist Church, Carthage. Rev. Ray Crews and Rev. John Davidson will officiate. Interment will be in Park Cemetery, Carthage. Memorial gifts are suggested to the First Baptist Church in care of Knell Mortuary, Carthage.
