Gary Earl Reynolds, age 69 of Joplin, passed away in the loving arms of his family at 2:17 p.m. Monday, February 8, 2016 at Freeman West Emergency Room.
Born March 30, 1946 in Joplin, he was the son of the late Earl and Gladys McFerron Reynolds and had lived in the Joplin area his lifetime. Gary was a 1964 graduate of Carl Junction High School and received his bachelor of science degree in business. He retired from Empire District Electric Company with 33 years of service and from the National Guard with the rank of Lt. Col. He was a member of Jasper Christian Church; Jasper Lodge No. 398, AF&AM; Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Joplin; Abou Ben Adhem Shrine Temple, Springfield and the Carthage Shrine Club.
Gary spent his life enjoying every minute. He loved to travel with his family, go hunting, fishing, and having game night with his wife and close friends. His most precious moments were spent making memories with his grandchildren. He will be missed by many and was a true blessing and role model to his family.
On September 24, 1965, he married Janice Kay Smith in Jasper County. She survives.
Additional survivors include two daughters, Melissa James and husband Keith of Carl Junction, Tracy Southern and husband James of Carl Junction; his sister, Betty Bennish of Joplin; six grandchildren, Kylie Davis, Samantha James, Lindsey James, Beau James, Noah Southern and Isabelle Southern.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday at Parker Mortuary with Rev. Bob Simon officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Beau James, Noah Southern, James Southern, Gary Earl, Clint Smith and David Bennish. Honorary pallbearers will be Ted Tankersley, Stan Patterson and Max Jagger. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Parker Mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to Shriner Children's Hospital for Burn Care, in care of the mortuary.
