Emma Jean Gilstrap, age 75 of Joplin, Mo. passed away on Saturday, July 1, 2017, at her home following an illness.
Emma was born on August 29, 1941 in rural Joplin, the daughter of Clayton and Emma (Wiley) Bell. She has been a lifetime area resident, Emma spent her days loving and caring for her family as a homemaker.
She married Donald G. Gilstrap on December 24, 1959, he preceded her in death on April 17, 1989. Emma was also preceded in death by her parents, a son, Donnie Gilstrap, three brothers; Tony Bell, Jerry Bell and Mike Bell, and two sisters; Loretta Bryant and Linda Redman. Survivors include two sons; Dan Gilstrap of Joplin, Bobby Gilstrap and wife Dawn of Joplin, two daughters; Melinda Gilstrap and Roxie King both of Joplin, one brother; Charlie Bell and wife Lela of Gladstone, Mo., two sisters; Donna Hilton-Crampton of Joplin, Sue Cole-Bearden and husband Joe of Joplin, eight grandchildren; Lauren, Caitlin, Kendall, Sam, Sara, Jackie, Chelsea and Ashley, ten great-grandchildren; Brayden, Jase, Olyvia, Nevaeh, Savannah, Jaxxon, Makayla, Serena, Dayton and Janeth, son-in-law; Carl King, two daughters-in-law; Kim and Mary, best friends; Joann and Marie, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Gilstrap Family in care of the mortuary.
Funeral services have been scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 6, 2017 at the Mason-Woodard Chapel. Pastor Billie Gibson, will officiate. The family will receive friends during a time of visitation from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory.
