Ethel "Enid" Blevins, 97, passed away December 8, 2017. Enid was born November 20, 1920, in Branson, Missouri to Dillard and Iva Boswell. She was a graduate of Branson High School where she played volleyball and the violin. In 1941, she received her Bachelor of Science in Education Degree from Southwest Missouri State Teachers College in Springfield. After graduation, she relocated to Carl Junction, where she began her teaching career in the Carl Junction School District. It was during that time she met her husband, Richard (Dick) Blevins. They were married December 19, 1942, and had one child, Randy. After receiving her Masters Degree in Education, she became an English Professor at Missouri Southern State University, retiring in 1981.
In addition to teaching, Mrs. Blevins touched many lives in Jasper County and beyond through various volunteer activities. She was active in her church serving in many capacities, community involvement including development of the Meals On Wheels program in Carl Junction. She taught Bible study classes in her home while in her 90's, sewed, made dolls, china painted, loved to cook, read, play pinochle and gardening.
She is survived by her Daughter-in-Law, Barb, West Des Moines, Iowa; Granddaugher, Cari (Jon), West Des Moines and Grandson, Cory (Kristie), Davenport, Iowa. She was the proud great grandmother of Taylor, Avery, Adison, Blake and Kinley. Recently she became a great-great grandmother to Briella Rose. She is also survived by her Sister-in-Law, Vee, Chesterfield, Missouri.
Services will be Saturday, December 16, at Parker Mortuary at 11:00 with visitation one hour before the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul's Methodist Church at Carl Junction or Missouri Southern State University in her name.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
