J.C. “Jay” Carpenter, of Joplin, MO, died peacefully, surrounded by family, on his birthday, December 22, 2017. He was 79.
Mr. Carpenter was born on December 22, 1938 in Miller, MO to his parents, Jewell and Golden Carpenter. He attended Carthage & Miller, MO schools. He married the love of his life, Loretta Coleman, on May 19, 1959. She survives of the home. Jay owned and operated Jay’s Auto Repair for 18 years. He later worked for Northern Pipeline and retired in 1998.
Jay was a loving, hardworking, Christian, family man that always put his family first. His sense of humor was unmatched and was one of his most endearing qualities. Jay loved to work on things and there wasn’t anything that he could not fix.
Jay is survived by Loretta, his wife of 58 years; sons Marty Carpenter and Jody Carpenter; daughters Lori (Kevin) Musser and Missy Hext, all of Joplin. Additional survivors include grandchildren Jake (Claudia) Musser; Korey (Brooke) Scribner, Jessie (Trever) Davis, Kaci (Jerick) Swarens and Emmy (Jared Smith) Carpenter, great grandchildren Tinley, Alex, Natalie, Sunnie, Tucker and one on the way, Khloe.
He is survived by one sister, Wanda Grieve of Monrovia, CA, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers; Jim, Ray and Bill Carpenter.
Services for Mr. Carpenter will be held 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at Mason-Woodard Mortuary in Joplin with Chaplain Clyde McClain officiating. A visitation with the family will precede the service at 2:00 p.m.
Burial will be held at Carterville Cemetery following the service. Michael Tracy, along with grandsons, will serve as pallbearers.
