Wayne J. Thomas, 97, passed away Thursday, December 14, 2017 at St. Luke’s in Carthage, Missouri. Wayne was born June 28, 1920 in rural Jasper County to Charles Franklin Thomas and Edna Vivian “Ballard” Thomas.
Wayne was a truck driver for Phillips Petroleum Co., retired from Firestone Auto Tire Service, then worked at Carthage Hardware. Wayne served in the Navy during World War II as a Fireman 1st Class from 1944 to 1946. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Carthage and was a life member of Jasper V.F.W. Post #6415.
Wayne was united in marriage to Freda F. "Grieb" May 11, 1946 in Carthage; she survives.
Wayne is also survived by two sons, Thomas W. Thomas (Tonna) of Joplin and Edward L. Thomas (Frances) of Carthage; two daughters, Jeannette F. Thomas of Joplin and Susan K. Thomas of Oronogo.
Wayne was preceded in death by two brothers, Gerald and Norman.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 21, 2017 at the First Baptist Church in Carthage. Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will be at Park Cemetery in Carthage.
