Jim West

(From Hedge-Lewis-Goodwin Funeral Home)

James E. “Jim” West, age 66, of Webb City, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, December 26, 2017, at the Galena Nursing Center from complications of multiple sclerosis.

He was born in Carthage, Missouri May 4, 1951, to his wonderful parents, James (Buck) and Velma (Breeding) West.

Jim was a graduate of Carthage High School class of 1969. He was in the National Honor Society, played saxophone in the band and was a member of a small jazz ensemble. He attended MSSC, which is now MSSU. He graduated with a degree in General Business and was a lifetime alumni member. He was a great big football fan. He loved the Webb City Cardinals, MSSU Lions and his super favorite was the Kansas City Chiefs.

He was employed at the Carthage Press as a circulation manager. He helped open up the first Pizza Hut in Carthage as an assistant manager. His most rewarding job was being an Allstate Agent; he enjoyed his customers and helped them often in so many ways.

Jim married the love of his life, Norma Morris, on July 17, 1999. They were so happy and did a lot of traveling. Their favorite destination was a cruise to Alaska.

He was a gentle Ben and was very caring. He was so full of life and enjoyed it every day. He loved people and never said a bad word about anyone. Norma will miss him so very much, but the memories cannot be taken away.

Jim’s home away from home was the Galena Nursing Center for the last 8 ½ years. His Multiple Sclerosis had progressed. The care that he received was exceptional and compassionate. Thank you, one and all, to the staff at Galena Nursing Center, for a loving family atmosphere and thank you to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice.

He is survived by his wife, Norma, as well as numerous friends and extended family.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 29, 2017, at the Hedge-Lewis-Goodwin Funeral Home with Pastors Tim Martin and Kevin McNeely officiating. Burial will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 -7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Those gentlemen honoring his life by serving as pallbearers are Tim Smith, Carlis Robison, Jon Linebarger, Ron Trujillo, Bill Rowe and Dave Kuhler.

  1. We love you dad! We wish Norma hadn't kept you out of our lives - and hadn't tucked you away in that nursing home for 8 years in Kansas- the MS was a struggle and unfortunately aided her in keeping you away from Amber West Fowler and I ( Whitney Lynn West) and your grandchildren Aedon- Toryn- and Porter. There isn't a day we haven't missed you even before you passed on to be with grandma and grandpa.
