Janie Kay Goswick Parker, passed away peacefully at her home in Joplin one day following her 57th birthday, after a courageous battle with cancer. She never gave up.
Janie was born December 5, 1960 in Joplin. She was a graduate of Carthage High School and attended Missouri Southern State University. She worked many years as general manager for Precious Moments Company. She then worked as a paralegal and Client Support Lead for Parmele Law Firm until she became unable to work.
Janie was an avid bowler for many years and was very proud of her two ‘300 game’ rings. In May of 2012 she was inducted into the Greater Joplin Bowling Association Hall of Fame.
She also was known as a huge Kansas City Chiefs fan and had a large memorabilia collection which she lost in the tornado of 2011.
Survivors include her son, Adam Periman and wife April of Fairview, Missouri, her daughter Ashley Tate of Carthage. Her mother, Judy Turner, Joplin, her father Gary Goswick and wife Marilyn of Osage Beach, Missouri. Her sister’s Janet Buening and husband Bill of Diamond, and Julie Fisher and husband Floyd of Duquesne. She is also survived by grandchildren, Braxdon Tate, Bradyn Mosier, Ava Periman, Alia Periman and Alyvia Periman; her uncle's Albert Goswick, John Goswick; aunt Lois Buzzard; several nieces, nephews and cousins and her very special fur baby ‘Dewey’.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents John and Pauline Goswick, Bud and Mary Legg; step-father Gene Turner and niece Leiton Goswick Buening.
The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Monday, December 11, 2017 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. A memorial service will be Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, 7th and Byers, Father Frank Sierra officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital, or the Joplin Humane Society.
Services are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin.
