Vera Marie Leivan, age 77, of rural Lamar, unexpectedly passed away Monday, December 11, 2017, at Freeman West Hospital following a short illness.
Vera was born March 16, 1940, in Fort Scott, Kansas, grew up in the Kansas City area and graduated from Raytown High School. Always creative and personable, she excelled and enjoyed working for Hallmark Cards in Kansas City for many years. In 1972, Vera married Ron Leivan and their made their home and raised their sons in Barton County. In Lamar, she had worked for KHST Radio, various convenience stores, and was an in-home caretaker. Her home was always warm and welcoming and her greatest joy was found in family and friends. She was at home in nature, whether working in her flower gardens, fishing, or just taking a walk with her faithful dog, Duke. Vera had a knack for photography and completed beautiful embroidery projects to be shared.
Vera was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Anna Marie Leslie; her husband, Ron in 1996; and her son, Brett in 1997.
Survivors include two sons, Aaron Leivan (Tammy) and Brandon Leivan, all of Lamar; a brother, Lawrence Hill, Butler, Missouri; and two sisters, Mary Ann Daniels, Sherman, Texas, and Jeanne Hultman, Wichita, Kansas. Vera delighted in her grandchildren, Destinee, Arianna, Aaron, Hailey, and Aleea, and cherished the fellowship of many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 15th at Daniel Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. Thursday and 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Leivan family in care of the funeral home.
