Ty Christopher Lee Grafton, age 16, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away at his home on Tuesday, December 19, 2017.
Ty was born in Scottsdale, Arizona, parents are William "Eric" Grafton and Ashley Smoots Grafton. He was a 10th grade student at Joplin High School. Ty loved sports of all kinds, especially running, basketball and several others. He was a huge University of Oklahoma fan! He loved being outdoors and taking his little brother for bike rides. Ty loved to help his friends and family, and had a true servant's heart. Ty was a fantastic big brother, and loved to teach Thomas his dance moves, if they weren't busy wrestling or playing hide and seek. He attended church at both, The Light and Hope City, both of Joplin.
Ty is survived by his parents, Eric and Ashley Grafton, brother, Thomas Grafton; maternal grandparents, Richard and LaFonda Bly, Claremore, Oklahoma; paternal grandparents, Geoffrey and Tammy Grafton, Sulphur, Oklahoma; great grandmothers, Esther Nickles of Claremore and Alice Peck of Wellington, Utah; uncles, Zach Smoots and Aaron Whitmire; aunt, Alicia Whitmire; plus numerous extended family and friends.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 23, at 10:00 A.M. at The Light Church in Joplin. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Ty Grafton Memorial Fund at any SMB bank location. Donations will be used to fund a suicide awareness and prevention program at Joplin High School.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
