(From Parker Mortuary)Clifton Edwin Clayton, age 87, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away on June 27, 2024. Clifton was born on October 6,1936 to Clifton and Ruth Clayton in Bentonville, Arkansas.
After serving in the U.S. Marine Corps for 8 years as an Aircraft Engine Mechanic, Clifton began a 30-year career in General Electric’s Aircraft Division. He graduated from Antelope Valley College and worked as the project manager for testing B-1 Bomber engines at Edwards Air Force Base before retiring in 1992.
Clifton loved to ride motorcycles, specifically his Honda Gold Wing touring bike, with his wife, Carolyn. He enjoyed trout fishing at Lake Intake in Bishop, California and near Fort Collins, Colorado with his brother, Emmett. He loved to golf and was extremely handy around the house. He was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church of Arkansas City, Kansas.
Clifton is preceded in death by his parents, Clifton and Ruth Clayton, and his siblings, Emmett, Jerry, and Jim. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Carolyn Moffet Clayton; his children, Steven (Anabel) Clayton and Jana (Rick) Esposito; his niece, Beverly; seven grandchildren, James, Michael, Heather, Jennifer, Samantha, Alexandra, and Carlos; two great-grandchildren, Evan and Lily; and his dog, Apricot.
A celebration of life will be held on August 8, 2024 at 5 pm at Clifton’s favorite restaurant, Flat Creek Restaurant, in Webb City, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Honor Flights of the Ozarks in care of Parker Mortuary. www.honorflightoftheozarks.org/
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
