Corrine Hawkins

(From Parker Mortuary)

Twyla “Corrine” Hawkins, age 85, of Joplin, MO, passed away on July 8, 2024, at her home surrounded by her family.

Corrine was born on February 26, 1939 in Joplin, MO, to William Thompson Phillips and Elizabeth Mae Phillips (Randall). She attended Joplin High School and graduated in 1957. She began working in the title insurance industry in 1974.

On September 20, 1980, she married the love of her life, Ray C. Hawkins, in Baxter Springs, KS. Together they owned and operated Hawkins Title Company for 30 years and built long lasting relationships through their company, which remained true throughout the community after their retirement. Together they also owned several dirt track race cars and enjoyed many years of watching them race.

During the winter, she traveled to South Texas in an RV with Ray. She took great pride in considering herself a “snowbird”. Corrine and Ray were blessed with 23 years of marriage before his passing on June 8, 2004. Corrine loved spending time with her family, whether that be laughing at birthday or holiday celebrations, or sitting in her living room watching a good crime drama or murder mystery. She also enjoyed golfing at Loma Linda Country Club and Twin Hills Country Club. She remained close with her high school friends throughout her life, enjoying each other’s company with monthly luncheons and weekly dominoes days.

Corrine was preceded in death by her husband, Ray C. Hawkins; two brothers, James Marion Schooley and Charles Jackson Phillips.

Corrine is survived by her two daughters, Beth Galbraith, of Miami, Oklahoma and Cassy Rogers (Roman), of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; five grandchildren, Brandon Molloy (Jackie), Patrick Billings (Courtney), Maddison Vernon (Ben), Ashley Horn (Will) and Mackenzie Stackle; six great-grandchildren, Maisie Molloy, Reegin Molloy, Liam Billings, Oliver Stackle, Eleanor Stackle and Amelia Vernon; one brother, Randall Phillips (Patti); one sister, Betty Vavra; and many loved nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made out to the American Cancer Society in care of Parker Mortuary.

The family would like to make a special thank you to the caregivers, Jasmine Wheeler, Rhonda Guthrie, Jennifer Kershaw, and Helen Penn for their compassion and love towards Corrine. As well as, Phillip Shamblin for his outpouring love and support of the family in this difficult time.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 11, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Park Plaza Christian Church with Pastor Mark Scott officiating. Interment to follow at Osborne Memorial Cemetery with Brandon Molloy, Patrick Billings, Roman Rogers, William Horn, Ben Vernon, and Phillip Shamblin serving as pallbearers.
