Arthur Ray Bowlby, age 83, Joplin, passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2019 at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin.
Arthur was born November 19, 1935 in Baxter Springs, Kansas, son of the late Chauncy Bowlby and Nina L (Zook) Bowlby. He grew up in Kansas, and graduated from Cherokee County Community High School in 1953. He then served in the United States Air Force, and retired from the Jefferson County School District in Loveland, Colorado.
He moved to Joplin in 2006, and was an active member of First United Methodist Church where he was involved with the Shoebox Ministries, and volunteered with Crosslines of Joplin. He was also a member of the local American Legion.
In addition to his parents, Arthur was preceded in death by his longtime companion, Dwain Henderson, who died November 16, 2011; brothers, Robert T. Bowlby and Keith W. Bowlby; sisters, Frances J. (Bowlby) Barton, and Sarah L. Bowlby.
Survivors include his twin sister, Martha F. (Bowlby) Clark of O'Fallon, Missouri; brother, Frank E. Bowlby of Hutchinson, Kansas; numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends, including his close friend, Rhonda Gentry of Joplin.
Graveside services will be Friday, June 7, 2019 at Noon in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield, Missouri with full military honors.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
