Major Blake Tyler, age 65 passed away at 12:01 am, Friday, May 31, 2019 at Freeman West Hospital following a life of love and laughter.
Blake was born October 3, 1953 in Joplin, Missouri. His parents were Charles and Virginia (Filler) Tyler. He was a lifetime resident of Joplin.
After graduating from Joplin High School with the class of 1971, he entered the U S Army and served from 1971 – 1973. He later went to college where he earned a Bachelor degree in Sociology. He had worked as a caretaker for a home health service. He also owned and operated Blake’s Cakes where he enjoyed practicing his baking skills.
He was baptized in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He enjoyed art, square dancing, and participating with his kids and grandkids activities.
Blake was married to Alice Dean Long on September 9, 1974 in Carthage, MO. She survives.
Additional survivors include 2 sons, Charles Tyler and wife Georgetta, Webb City, MO, and Travis Tyler and wife Veda, Pittsburg, KS;. 2 daughters, Jessica Tyler and partner Laci, Granby, MO and Jennifer Watson and husband Kenneth, Oronogo, MO; 3 brothers, Mike Tyler and wife Margie, Springfield, MO, R. J. Tyler and wife Ruth, Joplin, MO, and Keith Tyleramd wife Susie Dallas, TX; 2 sisters, Debbie Burton and husband Tommy, Joplin, MO and Lora Tyler, Sedalia, MO; 11 grandchildren, Christopher, Alex, Josiah, Ilene, Abbi, Allyson, Travis lee, Halie, Jadyn, and Kassidee. and 1 great-grandson.
Funeral services will be at 3:00 pm, Thursday, June 6, 2019 at Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, KS.
