Douglas Dewane Wallen, 82, of Carthage, Missouri, passed away December 5, 2017 at his home. Douglas was born February 26, 1935 in Van Alstyne, Texas; the son of Bill and Mae “Hood” Wallen.
Douglas retired from Waubonsee Community College in Aurora, Illinois where he had taught Automotive Technology for 18 years. After retirement, he and his wife, Verda, moved to Carthage, Missouri where they built their new home and hangar to pursue his dream of flying and building airplanes.
Douglas will be remembered for his patience, his ability to fix or make anything, his enjoyment of practical jokes, his love for his family and the creative ways he entertained his two granddaughters.
Douglas is survived by his wife, Verda “Cooper”, of 61 years; one daughter, Deann Seabolt and husband Martin of Winchester, Virginia; two granddaughters, Ashley and husband Gabe Fahnestock of Winchester, Virginia and Hannah and husband J.B. TerVeen of Roseville, California; three great grandchildren, Rachel and Samuel Fahnestock, Norah TerVeen, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers, Billy Wallen, Jessie Armstrong, Cecil Armstrong, Elden Armstrong and Austin Armstrong.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, December 9, 2017 at Victory Baptist Church in Carthage, Missouri.
