Red Mathia

Louis “Red” Eugene Mathia of Miami, OK passed from this life Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at Windridge Nursing and Rehab Center in Miami, OK. He was 90.

Red was born August 15, 1930 in Lawrence, KS to Clarence and Agnes (Turner) Mathia. He had lived in Miami most of his life. 

Red served in the U. S. Army during the Korea Conflict and had worked at B.F. Goodrich in Miami. He owned and operated Red’s Foreign Care Repair and Red’s Salvage Yard in Miami. Red served as Mayor of the City of Miami 1989 to 2001. He was a member of Miami Lodge No. 140 A.F. & A.M., Friends of the Coleman Volunteer, Studebaker Driver’s Club and served on the L.E.A.D. Impact Committee as a Board Member.







Red was preceded in death by 2 wives, Naomi Jean Mathia and Judith Ann Mathia, his parents, 1 brother, Claude Mathia and 2 sisters, Cleo Mathia and Alta Lacy.

Survivors include 1 son, Randy Mathia and wife Lucy of Miami, OK, 1 daughter, Judith Ann Wachter and husband Bruce of Granby, MO, 1 brother, Don Hogan of Miami, OK, 6 grandchildren, 16 great -grandchildren and 3 great great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 26, 2021 at the Paul Thomas Funeral Home Chapel in Miami, OK. Rev. Phil Shyers will officiate. Interment will be in Ottawa Indian Cemetery, east of Miami, OK. Military Rites will be conducted by Grove Veterans Ritual Team. Terry Durborow, Keith Manion, Randy Crist, Kenny Kimerer, Terry and Keith Hardin will serve as pallbearers. Bill Lunsford, Robert Berry, Daniel Guthrie and Wayne Brooks will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends Sunday 6 to 8 p.m. at Paul Thomas Funeral Home Chapel in Miami, OK.
