(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)Oleta Getchell, age 100 of Joplin, MO., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 20, 2021.
Oleta was born on September 30, 1920 to Robert Thompson and Neva Simon. From the time Oleta was 6 years old until she married Rev William "Jack" Whitehead, Oleta lived with her beloved Grandmother Louisa Simon Witt.
Oleta managed the cosmetic department for the downtown Macy’s in Joplin until they closed their doors, she then managed Door’s Beauty Supply where retired from in 2006. Oleta was one of the original founding members of Calvary Baptist Church where she was a lifelong member. Oleta loved tending to her garden and being outdoors, spending time with family and friends and serving her Lord.
Oleta was preceded in death by grandmother Louisa Simon Witt, Robert Thompson and Neva Simon; first born Barbara Whitehead; two sisters Lucille Smith & Wathenia Constantz; two husbands Rev. William Jackson Whitehead & Louis Getchell and a host of family & friends who greeted her on her arrival!
Oleta is survived by her daughter Janice and husband Wayne France, daughter Judy DuRall and son Michael and wife Judy Whitehead, grandchildren; Chuck France, Benjamin France, Terri Vermillion, Shari and husband Mark Blackburn, Brett and wife Sheree Vermillion, Randy DuRall Jr., Michelle Whitehead, Diana and husband Curtis Rose, plus Great, Great Great, and Great Great Great Grandchildren totaling 32.
Services have been scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 24, 2021 at Calvary Baptist Church, with a visitation Friday, July 23, 2021 evening from 6-8 p.m. at Mason-Woodard Mortuary.
Contributions can be made out to “Samaritan’s Purse” Disaster Relief Ministries.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory.
