Mark Rowan

Mark Douglas Rowan, age 63, passed away Friday, July 16, 2021 at Landmark Hospital in Joplin, Missouri following a hard-fought battle with COVID.

Mark was born March 21, 1958 in Joplin, MO to parents Harold Lee and Delores Rose (Medley) Rowan. He grew up in Galena and Riverton, Kansas, graduating with the class of 1976 from Riverton High School. 

He married Julia Ann Doyle on April 14, 1978 in Joplin, where they lived before settling in Carl Junction, Missouri. They had one son, Kyle.








Mark began working at Jayhawk Fine Chemicals in Riverton, KS. He spent time working for Able Body in Joplin, Sunbeam in Neosho, Missouri, and others before ultimately returning to Jayhawk where he held many roles, most recently as Human Resources Manager. He took great pride in his work and the relationships he built there. He loved duck hunting, fishing, telling jokes and stories, being at the lake, following the local sports teams and any outdoor activity where he had family or friends by his side. A caring husband, father, son, friend, and coworker, Mark left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

He is survived by his wife, Julie, Carl Junction, MO; son and daughter-in-law, Kyle and Kate Rowan, Kansas City, MO; one sister, Sandi Rowan-Sapp, Joplin, MO; and his step-mother, Joan Rowan, Galena.

His parents preceded him in death.

Services for Mark will be announced by Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, KS at a later date.
