(From Daniel Funeral Home)Gladys M. "Shorty" Godfrey, age 100, of Lamar, Missouri passed away July 30, 2021, at her home.
Shorty was born January 21, 1921 in Lamar, MO., to Melvin and Veda (Smith) Simms.
On October 4, 1942. Shorty married Lester Eugene Godfrey at the Lamar United Methodist Church in a double ring ceremony with her sister Mary Alice and her husband Ray "Tuffy" Garrison.
Shorty worked as a nurse assistant for Dr. Cain for 8 years and as a bank teller for LBT for 24 years. Shorty was also a housewife, a Boy Scouts den mother, Sunday school teacher, Lamar Free Fair Flower Exhibit Committee Chairman, a member of the Lamar United Methodist Church and a member of a local bridge club.
Shorty worked as a nurse assistant for Dr. Cain for 8 years and as a bank teller for LBT for 24 years. Shorty had a longtime hobby of golfing with good friend, Betty Jo Gilkey and could still swing a golf club at 93. She could be seen walking the neighborhood for many years with her long time friend and neighbor, Margaret Dermott.
Shorty and her friend and co-worker, Shirley Webb enjoyed their many shopping trips to Kansas City, (always looking for shoes and eating spicy Mexican food) with Luella Godfrey always tagging along.
Survivors include her sons; Gordon and wife Luella Godfrey of Lamar, MO., and Ken Godfrey of Jasper, Missouri, grandchildren; Ryan and wife Leah Godfrey, Jeff and wife Ashley Godfrey and Ryan Collier as well as five great-grandchildren; Toby, Edie, Sammy, Bess and Silas, she was also a loving aunt to six nieces and five nephews.
Preceding Shorty in death were her husband, her parents, one brother, Kenny Simms and a sister, Mary Alice Garrison.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 2, 2021, at Daniel Funeral Home with burial to follow in Lake Cemetery in Lamar, MO.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m., Monday until service time at the funeral home.
