(From Parker Mortuary)Michael Darrell “Mike” Douglas, age 63, Joplin, passed away on Monday, July 19, 2021 at Freeman West of Joplin after a sudden illness.
Mike was born September 19, 1957 in Kansas City, Missouri and grew up in Galena, Kansas where he went to High School. He worked for years as a truck driver with Butler Paper, and then with Adamson Trucking where he retired in 2020.
He was always up for entertaining family and friends through camping, bar-b-ques, cooking for everyone, and holding bonfires for his family and friends. He was all about “making memories” and helped do this for many. He enjoyed being outdoors whether riding his horse, riding his motorcycle, or fishing with his friends. He loved his children, and grandchildren very much, and will be missed by them and his many friends.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Anna (Simpson) Ferguson.
Survivors include his children, Tonya Douglas and Michael P. Douglas both of Joplin; grandchildren, Maria Vaughn, Samantha Vaughn, Sydney Vaughn all of Joplin, and Hailey Walker of Jonesboro, Arkansas; his father, Lonnie Ferguson of Joplin; sister, Teresa Wilson of Sarcoxie; brothers, Charles J. Atkins of Galena, Ricky Atkins of Pittsburg, Kansas, and Gary Douglas of Joplin; several nieces, nephews, and other family and many friends.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
