(From Ozark Funeral Home)James Lee Dickey Jr, known to many as “Junior”, passed away on July 24, 2021, at Webb City Health and Rehabilitation Center in Webb City, Missouri, at the age of 96.
Before declining health necessitated his move to Webb City earlier this year, he had resided at his home in Anderson, Missouri, for over sixty years.
James was born in Leonard, Oklahoma, on February 6, 1925. The family moved often, and he grew up in Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Missouri before graduating from Pineville High School. He served in the Army Infantry in the South Pacific in WWII where he earned the rank of Tech-Sergeant, and in the Korean War where he received a Purple Heart for injuries received during battle. James worked at Western Electric and North American Aviation in California before returning to Missouri to work as a rocket engine tester at Rocketdyne and later Teledyne in Neosho. He then founded Dickey Oil Company and distributed Amoco Oil throughout McDonald and Newton Counties. James volunteered for many years with the Anderson Housing Authority. He was a life-long member of the Church of Christ, including the Church of Christ in Anderson before it closed in 2019, and then in Jane thereafter. He was happiest when surrounded by his family or while visiting with neighbors, friends, classmates, coworkers, customers, and fellow church members around town. He never met a stranger.
