Daisy York

(From Parker Mortuary)

Daisy Marie York, age 79, passed away July 24th, 2021 at her home.

A lifelong Joplin resident, she was born on June 8th, 1942 to parents Austin and Peggy Parker. She married Jimmie Dean York on July 27th, 1960.

To know Daisy was to know a bright and fun-loving soul. She was always full of joy and loved her family and friends deeply. For many years, she worked at many retail and factory jobs including Montgomery Ward, Western Auto, King Louie, Jasper Foods and Pillsbury. If you had the pleasure of working with her at any of those places, then you will surely remember her fun-loving spirit, sense of humor and strong work ethic.

When her children were growing up, she was a proud Girl Scout and 4-H leader. She adored all children and was a much-loved babysitter and caregiver for many children through the years. Babies were her weakness and she cared for several children from birth throughout their childhood. Her firm, but kind demeanor was something parents appreciated and kids always knew they had someone looking after them that would keep them safe and have fun with.

She was nicknamed Crazy Daisy by many of those kids and she wore that moniker proudly as it best described her silly, self-effacing sense of humor.

Playing cards weekly with her friends was a pastime she enjoyed very much up until her health no longer permitted it. Taking little road trips and shopping excursions with her sister-in-law, Vaunda Parker was something else she had enjoyed.

In recent years, she attended Christ Community United Methodist Church in Joplin. And became a member there. She faithfully attended until her health began to limit her attendance.

Our hearts are forever broken as we selfishly wish she would’ve stayed with us here, but we take comfort in knowing that she’s no longer struggling with her health. She’s now reunited with her beloved husband, Jimmie, and all her cherished family and friends that went on before her.

So many, many lives have been touched by her presence and we’re all truly blessed to have had her in our lives all these years.

Daisy was preceded in death by her parents; brother, George Parker; and husband, Jimmie Dean York.

Survivors include her daughter, Tracy Friend, Joplin; son, Mike York (Lori), Joplin; three grandchildren, Darrell Sour, Joplin, Dakotah Simpson, Wrightsville, PA and Haley Simpson, Joplin; two great-grandchildren, Braylon Simpson and Liam Simpson, Joplin; half-siblings, David Lewis, Diane Branchcomb, and Tracy M. Parker; brother-in-law, Wes York.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. The family has asked friends and family to look at Facebook for updates.

Cremation arrangements are under the special care and direction of Parker Mortuary.
