Betty McAfee

Betty J. McAfee, age 88, of Webb City, Mo. passed away at 11:47 a.m. Friday, August 18, 2023 at Solace House of the Ozarks in Joplin. Betty was born July 1, 1935 in Webb City, the daughter of Ernest and Dorothy Richey. She was a 1953 graduate of Webb City High School.

Betty was a Homemaker, but was also involved in child care, both in her home and through her Church. She was a member of the North Main Street Baptist Church of Carl Junction, Mo. and worked in the Church Office.

Betty was married to Bill McAfee on January 9, 1954 in Carl Junction, Mo. and he survives. Additional survivors include one son, Bob McAfee and wife Sarah, Carl Junction, Mo., two daughters, Barbara Maxwell, and husband Tom, Webb City, Mo., and Brenda Haynes, and husband Kenny, Carl Junction, Mo., three sisters, Kathy Birchfield, and husband Roy, Granby, Mo., Pat Gamble, and husband Tom, Oronogo, Mo., and Debbie Heckart, and husband Marvin, Webb City, Mo., seven grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Bill Richey, Ernest (Corky) Richey and his wife Joyce, and Gary Richey and his wife Dot, and two infant great grandchildren.

Services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 22, at the North Main Street Baptist Church, 7061 Highway 43, Carl Junction, Mo. 64834 with Rev. Walter Hammond officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Church. Burial will be in the Carl Junction Cemetery. 

Pallbearers will be Mark Maxwell, Brant Maxwell, Brad McAfee, Seth Haynes, Sam Haynes, Jason Ramirez, and Justin Boyes. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are requested to Solace House of the Ozarks in care of the Mortuary. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mason-Woodard Mortuary of Joplin, Mo.
