(From Parker Mortuary)Mary Ellen Wilson, age 90 of Joplin, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 24, 2023 at The Joplin Gardens following a short illness. Mary was born on February 16, 1933 in Joplin to the late Amos and Ola (Merryman) Roeber.
Mary left school just after 8th grade in order to help take care of her family of 8 siblings. She later married Ralph Leon Wilson, Jr. on December 29, 1952. They purchased a farm just outside of Webb City where you would find Mary hard at work raising chickens, selling eggs and taking care of the family needs. A part of her joy was spending time at the skating rink where she was known by many as “Aunt Mary."
Her husband Ralph passed away on December 29, 2008 on their 56th anniversary. Others preceding her in passing are siblings, Leon Simon, Amos L. Roeber, Eldon Roeber, Floyd Roeber, Betty Howard and Wanda Poffenbarger.
Surviving Mary are her children, Randal Wilson of Joplin, Rebecca Wilson of Joplin; brother, Ronald Lee Roeber of Joplin; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Funeral services are planned for Tuesday, August 29th at 10:00 a.m. at the Parker Mortuary Chapel with burial to follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery in Joplin. Family will receive friends on Monday evening between the hours of 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the mortuary. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Wounded Warrior Foundation in care of the mortuary.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
