(From Hedge-Lewis-Goodwin Funeral Home)Mr. Dennis Keith Sutton, 79, of Carthage, Missouri, formerly of Webb City, departed this life suddenly on Saturday, August 12, 2023, at Mercy Hospital in Carthage, from complications of a heart attack.
Dennis entered this life on May 8, 1944, in Franklin, Kansas, one of three sons born to the late Jesse Keith and Catherine Rose (Vignatelli) Sutton. He was raised in Pittsburg, Kansas and was a 1962 graduate of Pittsburg High School. He furthered his education at Pittsburg State University, receiving his Masters Degree in Education.
On January 3, 1986, he was united in marriage to Ann Bruffett and together they have shared the last thirty-seven years. Dennis was an educator throughout his life, retiring in 2005 with thirty-three years of service. He taught at Liberal, Parkwood and Memorial High Schools in Joplin as well as MSSC and Franklin Tech. Following retirement, he worked at Lowes in Carthage. Dennis was a member of Nashville Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Kenneth Sutton.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Ann Sutton of the home; four children, Julie Brenton and husband, Chris, of Glendale, Arizona, Mark Sutton and wife, Mandi, of Honolulu, Hawaii, Matt Bruffett and wife, Shannon, of Joplin and Dr. Chris Buffett of Jasper; four grandchildren, Seth Brenton, Mia Brenton, Mackensie Sutton and Grayson Bruffett; a brother, Dan Sutton of Dennis, Kansas; as well as a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services are 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 17, 2023 at Central United Methodist Church in Webb City with Pastor Terri Haywood officiating. Burial will follow at Hackney Cemetery northeast of Carthage. Those honoring his life by serving as pallbearers are Mark Sutton, Matt Bruffett, Chris Bruffett, Ryan Sutton, Dan Sutton and David Gober. The family will receive friends on Thursday morning beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the church.
Memorials are being directed to Nashville Methodist Church c/o the funeral home. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of the Hedge-Lewis-Goodwin Funeral Home in Webb City, Missouri.
