(From Parker Mortuary)
Dolores was born on May 14, 1928 in Joplin, to the late union of Solomon and Minnie (Sex) Lampkins. She grew up in Joplin and was a graduate of Joplin High. She was a long-time member of Byers Avenue United Methodist in Joplin where she also sang in the choir. She was a member of the Temple Chapter 95 Order of Eastern Star.
She worked as a receptionist for Dr. Ed James in 1946, then with Dr. Lloyd McPike. She loved pointing out that she “retired” both doctors. After working for McPike, she worked for Joplin Radiology as a medical assistant and secretary for Benefit Management Insurance Company. She loved going on trips, having the opportunity to go to Hawaii, the Caribbeans, and Colorado. However, one of her favorite spots was Shoal Creek, in Joplin to watch the geese. In her younger years, she was an avid bowler.
Dolores was extremely patriotic and enjoyed working the ballots as an electioneer for many years. Later in life, she was open to finding new interests. She became a voracious reader, puzzler, and a foodie (even discovering a love for sushi at the age of 85). She also was also a momma to her beloved cat, Baby.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Howard Lampkins; sister, Hilma Elliott; and best friend, Mary Ford.
Dolores is survived by her great-nieces and great-nephew, Erin Stewart and husband, Jaycen; Cindy Neibert and husband, John; Melissa Elloitt; Bruce Elliott and wife Amanda; numerous other nieces and nephews. The newest member of her clan was her great- great- great- great niece, Chevelle.
