Dorothy Kahl

Dorothy Kahl, 93, of Carthage, passed away on Monday, August 15, 2023, with her loving husband by her side. 

Dorothy was born on February 2, 1930, in Jasper County to David A. McNary and Bertha A. McNary. Dorothy was a sweet woman with a big mom heart. Not only did she care for her own children, but she also took care of other people’s children, and became a foster mom. 

She was a great cook; her family looked forward to enjoying her chicken and noodles with hot rolls and homemade chocolate pie. At one point she had a café in Avilla named Dot’s. She also enjoyed crocheting, fishing, bowling, and watching Cardinal Baseball.

Dorothy was united in marriage to William “Bill” H. Kahl on May 30, 1948; he survives.

Along with her husband Bill, she is survived by a son, Bill Jacobs (Betsy) of Fort Smith, Arkansas; a daughter, Dianne Kahl Klouse of Claremore, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Lloyd Kahl of Reeds; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents David and Bertha McNary; three brothers Emery McNary, Arlo McNary, and Dean McNary; and three sisters, Christina McNary, Leota McNary Nixon, and Harriette McNary Patrick.

A funeral service will be held for Dorothy at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at Ulmer Funeral Home in Carthage, Missouri. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 9:00 to 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at Ulmer Funeral Home. The burial will be at Avilla Cemetery immediately following the service.
