(From Derfelt Funeral Home)Gary Wayne LaTurner, age 60 of Galena, passed away on Sunday, August 20, 2023 following injuries sustained in an accident on Highway 66, west of Galena.
Gary was born in Joplin, MO on May 10, 1963 to Jerry Robert LaTurner I and Carolyn Rowan. Gary’s father says that as a youth, he was “just a great kid that didn’t have any problems with discipline."
He attended Galena Schools and remained in Galena as a lifetime resident until recently moving to Joplin. He loved working in the restaurant industry, and also worked with loaders and heavy machinery at CNN Corporation. He loved anything outdoors including fishing and hunting. He was a people person, very social, never met a stranger and would help anyone and everyone without expecting anything in return.
Gary is survived by one son, Donavan LaTurner; three daughters, Devon LaTurner, Jenny LaTurner, and Jaiba LaTurner, all of Galena; his father Jerry R. LaTurner I (wife, Elizabeth) of Galena; two brothers, Jerry Robert LaTurner II of Galena, and Perry David LaTurner of Asbury, MO; as well as several cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Carolyn Rowan; one son, Ethan Axl LaTurner; and one sister Teresa “Sissy” LaTurner.
Gary has been entrusted to Derfelt Funeral Home of Galena for cremation. The family will share the memorial service details publicly on Facebook when they’re available, including burial at Oak Hill Cemetery and a Celebration of Life at the Galena Senior Citizen’s Building.
