Billy Stamps

Billy Gene Stamps, 90, Odess Florida, died August 17, 2023, at Gulfside Hospice. Mr. Stamps was born March 8, 1933, in Stella, Missouri, one of two children of Johny Stamps and Ada Stipp. His brother, Donald Stamps preceded him in death.
 
Billy worked on the family farm until he joined the Army. Following his military training he was deployed in Korea to support the Korean conflict. After his deployment, Billy continued his service to his country in the Army Reserve, being discharged May 31, 1961. He was very proud of serving in the Army.








Upon returning home from Korea, Billy met Connie Lou Rodgers and moved to Kansas City, Missouri. They married in February 1959 and had one daughter, Candy Stamps Mitchell in 1961. They moved to Independence, Mo in 1962 and lived there until they moved to Florida in 2019 to be close to Candy and son-in-law, Mark Mitchell.

Billy worked for several departments at Hallmark Cards in downtown Kansas City, before retiring as the supervisor for the specialty items dock. He worked for Hallmark Cards for 38 years. His employment experiences included meeting Walt Disney, who had his first studio close to Hallmark Cards in Kansas City. He also knew JC Hall, the founder of Hallmark Cards.

Twenty-five years ago, Billy and Connie with their daughter Candy and Mark purchased 6 acres on Table Rock Lake in southern Missouri and built a house and large garage. Billy loved his time at the lake, especially fishing for crappie off the boat dock. Billy shared stories about the lake and his childhood with his many friends.






 

On January 4, 2023, Billy lost his wife Connie. They had been married for 62 years and it was a terrible loss for him. His survivors include one daughter Candy Lou Stamps Mitchell and husband Mark Mitchell of Odessa, FL; four grandchildren Jennifer and Eric Mitchell of Blue Springs, Brian and Janine Mitchell of Blue Springs MO; six great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and loving friends.
