Harold Summerlin

Harold Dean Summerlin, age 94, of Golden, Missouri passed away Monday, January 29, 2024 at The Missouri Veterans Home in Mount Vernon, Missouri.

He was born August 22, 1929 in Gore, Oklahoma the son of George W. Summerlin Jr. and Rubie E. (Deen) Summerlin. On July 31, 1977 in Joplin, Missouri he was united in marriage to Flo McGuirk who preceded him in death on October 7, 2000. Also preceding him in death were his parents; one stepson, Kevin Parker; one stepdaughter, Susan Dougless, and one brother, Gerald Summerlin.






 

Harold was later united in marriage on January 14, 2002 to Betty J. White who survives. 

Also surviving are two sons, David Summerlin and his wife Gail of Joplin, Missouri and Kevin Summerlin and his wife Chassie of Wyandotte, Oklahoma; three daughters, Christine Hays and her husband Kevin of Conway, Arkansas, Brenda Summerlin of Conway, Arkansas and Diana Tilford and her husband G.W. of Mabelvale, Arkansas; four stepsons, David Parker and his wife April of Jasper, Missouri, Wayne Poe of Olathe, Kansas, Gary Poe and his wife Brenda of Eagle Rock, Missouri and Dan Poe and his wife Katie of Roseburg, Oregon; three stepdaughters, Sheri Pierce and her husband Ralph of Oronogo, Missouri, Kelly Woodard of Joplin, Missouri and Marcia Dade and her husband Roger of Harwood, Missouri; two brothers, Roy Summerlin and his wife Reba of Jacksonville, Arkansas and Don Summerlin and his wife Judy of Fort Gibson, Oklahoma; two sisters, Sheila Rattliff of Tahlequah, Oklahoma and Frela Summerlin of Fort Gibson, Oklahoma; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Harold grew up and attended school in Gore, Oklahoma and later received his GED. He spent most of his life working for the United States Military. Harold served in the United States Airforce during World War II, The Korean War and the Vietnam War. He retired from the United States Air Force in 1969 after serving for 21 years. Harold then went to work for the United States Postal Service in Joplin, Missouri from where he retired in 1989. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, Bass Masters Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars, The American Legion and Disabled American Veterans. Harold was a member of the Golden Baptist Church in Golden, Missouri. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and doing woodworking.








Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, February 8, 2024 at Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville. Brother Bill Dudley will conduct the services. Burial with military honors will be at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery in Joplin, Missouri.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. until service time Thursday at Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville.

Contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Harold.
