(From Clark Funeral Home)Peggy E. Charlton was born on April 3, 1939, in Wheaton, Missouri, one of five children to George D. and Edith (Cook) Harris. She entered into rest on July 9, 2024, in Joplin, Missouri, at the age of 85.
Peggy was a graduate of Neosho High School, class of 1957, and a lifelong area resident. She worked as a telephone operator prior to becoming a full-time mother and homemaker. She was a 4-H mom, teaching crocheting, she enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, loved animals and never missed an episode of Jeopardy! She was on the original committee of the Granby Old Mining Town Days, specifically organizing the pet show. She was a member of the West Union Church of Christ.
On May 21, 1957, Peggy and Obern Charlton, Sr. were united in marriage and shared 67 years together.
In addition to her husband, Obern, Peggy is survived by three children, Obern Lee Charlton, Jr. of Diamond, Timothy Charlton of Neosho and Kay Lyn Kaiser and husband, Jeff of Granby: three grandchildren, Lauren Charlton of Springfield, Kevin Charlton of Shawnee, Kansas and Drake Alyn Kaiser of Granby and one great granddaughter, Gillian Charlton.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by an infant daughter, twin of Timothy, Tamara Charlton and four siblings, Helen Harper, Jack, Joe and George Harris.
Services will be held on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at 10 am at the Clark Funeral Home Chapel in Granby, Richard Anderson will officiate. Interment will follow in the Granby Memorial Cemetery and the family will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends, Monday evening, from 5:30 to 7:00 pm at the Clark Funeral Home, Granby. Peggy enjoyed the simple things in life and would encourage those attending the visitation and funeral service to dress casually in their favorite colors.
