(From Ulmer Funeral Home)It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Elroy E. Jones. Elroy died peacefully at home on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at the age of 89, surrounded by family.
Elroy was born on April 19, 1935, in Crookston, Minnesota. His family moved to Carthage, Missouri when Elroy was young. He went to school in Carthage until the 8th grade. Elroy joined the Air Force and spent time in Korea.
After having four kids and then suffering heartache, Elroy met his wife of 59 years, Diane. Elroy and Diane combined their families and added three more. Elroy held many jobs throughout his long life. He retired from Schreiber Foods in the early 2000’s. Golf and honey-dos became daily life for him. Soon after his retirement, Elroy finally convinced Diane to retire so they could spend more time doing things they enjoyed. Their life hasn’t always been easy, but their faith in Christ has made it full of love and special moments. For us, they are an example of true love. Elroy had a big heart and loved deeply. He will be missed every day.
Elroy is survived by his wife, Diane; his children, Lori Jo Schweppe of St. Louis, Missouri, Steve of Gillespie, Illinois, Dave and wife, Tami, of Silver Lake, Texas, Lori Harrington of Carthage, Missouri, Brenda Estes of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Staci Bruner of Lockwood, Missouri, and John and wife, Cindy of Carthage, Missouri; his grandchildren, Ben, Ryan, Jacob, Shelby, Samantha, Amanda, Lindsey, Michelle, Beth, Melinda, Hunter, Chloe, Walker, Nick, Maggie, Keygan, Karson, Tyler, Cody, and Jordyn; many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
Elroy is preceded in death by Elroy and Diane’s daughter, Susan, and many other family members and friends.
