James (Jim) Edward Zumwalt

Jim Zumwalt was born in the city of Joplin, Missouri, to Bill and Sharon Zumwalt. From a young age, Jim exhibited an innate kindness and an infectious sense of humor that would come to define his relationships with family and friends alike. His upbringing laid the foundation for a life characterized by dedication, laughter, and love.

Jim embraced life's opportunities with open arms and a steadfast commitment. His professional journey led him to a rewarding career at General Mills, where he spent almost three decades dedicating himself to providing for his family. Jim formed lasting friendships with many coworkers, who admired him not only for his diligence but for his unwavering loyalty and good humor.

In the realm of personal life, Jim shared an inspiring partnership with his beloved wife, Tammy. Their marriage, spanning 34 years, was a testament to love's enduring power. Together, they raised two beautiful daughters, Alexandria and Ashlea, who were the center of his world. Jim took immense pride in his family, cherishing each moment spent in their company. The laughter and joy they created together were the hallmarks of a life well lived.

Jim’s talents extended beyond his professional endeavors. As a fisherman, he found peace in the gentle rhythm of casting a line. His musical talent was nothing short of extraordinary; he could play any instrument he touched, filling his home with melodies that resonated with warmth and soul. A craftsman at heart, Jim delighted in working with wood and metal, creating pieces that reflected his meticulous nature and artistic spirit.

Above all, Jim was known for his quiet strength and his ability to listen—a skill that endeared him to many. He was the kind of man you could count on, his integrity shining brightly in every interaction. His sense of humor was legendary; a raconteur of the highest order, he collected jokes like treasures, ready to share a laugh at any opportunity.

Jim leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter, survived by his devoted wife Tammy, his cherished daughters Alexandria (Zeke) Zumwalt and Ashlea (Taylor) Cantrell, and his adored grandchildren Joicelyn, Aleana, and Evander. He is also survived by his father Bill (Lynne) Zumwalt and sister Cindee (Paul) Mulik. His mother, Sharon, predeceased him, but her spirit lives on in the values and love that Jim imparted to his family. He was also preceded in death by grandparents Melvin and Mable Zumwalt and Jonathan and Rose Dobbins.

As his family poignantly shared, Jim’s passing will leave a void in the hearts of all who knew him, yet we know that we will see him again someday in heaven. His memory and the joy he brought into this world have made us all better for having known him.
