Doris Jean Hunter of Joplin, Mo., age 72, passed away at 3:00 a.m. Wednesday August 27, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, following an illness.
Doris was born October 2, 1942 in Ava Mo, the daughter of the late Gene and Virginia Faye (Frye) Sherman. She married James Hunter on May 14, 1958 in Pittsburg, Ks. Doris dedicated her life to raising her family. She was a member of Royal Heights Methodist Church, the Highway Department Wives, and the Highway Department Bowling League. She was a past PTO president at Royal Heights Elementary School, and was also a Girl Scout Leader. Later in life she became co-owner of D.J.’s Wild West Western Store in Joplin.
Doris was proceeded in death by her husband, James Hunter in October of 1993. She is survived by four children: Gina Hunter (Boulder, Co.), Jana Shramm and husband Richard (Carthage), Todd Hunter and wife Shelly (Joplin), and Adam Norsworthy (Joplin); six grandchildren, Mallory Shramm, Maxwell Schramm, Oliver Schramm, George Schramm, Jake Hunter, and Sam Hunter; and one great-grandson.
Graveside committal of Ashes will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday August 29, 2015 at Mount Hope Cemetery. Joel James will officiate.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Joplin Humane Society or a scholarship fund for son Adam Norsworthy in care of the mortuary.
Arrangements are under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory.
