(From Daniel Funeral Home)
Linda Jean Lackey, age 69, of Lamar, passed away unexpectedly Monday, August 10, 2015 at her home.
Linda was born April 5, 1946, in Chanute, Kansas, the only child of Eldon and Alberta (Pinkston) Mathew. When Linda was five years old, her mother died in an automobile accident and she was raised by her great-grandmother, May Schooler and great-aunts, Elsie Pinkston and Colleen Bennett. After graduating from Pittsburg College High School in 1964, Linda worked at the Parsons Ammunitions Plant and as a CNA at Fredonia Regional Hospital. In 1984, she earned a degree in radiology from Labette Community College and worked at Mt. Carmel Hospital in Pittsburg for four years before accepting a position as director of radiology at Barton County Memorial Hospital. In 1995, Linda literally “switched gears” beginning a 19 year career as an over-the-road truck driver. She was an avid reader, accomplished cook, and enjoyed gardening during her home time. Of all the many jobs, titles, and interests in Linda’s life, her greatest satisfaction and pleasure came from being a grandmother.
Survivors include two sons, Brian (Gail) Bush of Wichita, Kansas and Darren Bush of Lamar; two granddaughters, Kimberly (Lee) Fields and Heidi (Mike) Campbell all of Wichita; and four great-grandchildren, Jaidynn and TreyVon Fields, Jason and Nicholas Campbell.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday at High Prairie Cemetery near Altoona, Kansas.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Barton County Memorial Hospital in care of Daniel Funeral Home.
