Dr. Naomi Nichols

Dr. Naomi Eve Card Nichols, 88, Carthage, passed away August 16, 2015 at her home after a long illness. 

Naomi Eve Card was born August 20, 1926 in Weslaco, Texas; a daughter of the late Harold Cedric Card and Alta Bowling Card. She was a graduate of Weslaco High School, Class of 1943; Logan School of Chiropractic Medicine, St. Louis, MO., class of 1947, with a degree in Doctor of Chiropractic, and attained additional certifications in Concept Therapy, Midwifery and Applied Clinical Nutrition. She married Bert W. Nichols, Sr. on June 28, 1946 at the Emanuel Baptist Church, Carthage; he preceded her in death on January 12, 2014. Dr. Nichols owned and operated her office of Chiropractic Medicine and Nutrition from 1960 – 2006. Dr. Nichols was a member of the First Baptist Church, Carthage Business Women of Missouri, American Legion Auxiliary, Missouri Chiropractic Association, Logan Chiropractic Alumni Association, and was a Past Matron for the Order of the Eastern Star, Carthage.

Additional survivors include four daughters; Alta May (Garrett) Smith, Carthage, Patricia Ann (Gene) McClure, Caney, KS, Ruth Andrea (John) West, Carthage and Nancy Irene (Mark) Rinehart, Atlanta, Texas; three sons; Bert Walter Nichols, Jr., Carthage, Harold Homer (Hazel) Nichols, Carthage and Charles Taylor (Alisha)Nichols, Denver, CO; two sisters; Winnie Glee Neely, Sierra Blanca, Texas and Lola Maye Bove’, Carthage; 24 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren, 13 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Dr. Nichols was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bert W. Nichols, Sr., her grandson Richard Emory Smith, and one sister, Evelyn Ruth Fillingham.

Eastern Star services will be recited from 5:30-6:00 PM; visitation will follow from 6:00 – 7:00 PM, Thursday, August 20 at Knell Mortuary, Carthage, MO. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, August 21 at the First Baptist Church, Carthage. Interment will be in Park Cemetery, Carthage. Memorial gifts may be given to the Dr. Naomi Nichols Scholarship fund in care of Southwest Missouri Bank, Carthage. Online condolences may be expressed through www.knellmortuary.com.
