Janet Weidman

Janet Weidman, 86, died August 23, 2015 in Wichita, Kansas. 

She was recently a resident in Clearwater, Kansas. Janet was born in Joplin, Missouri on December 10, 1928 to the late Thomas Kennedy and Pauline May Clark Kennedy. Janet became a professional dancer shortly after graduation from Joplin High School and Lindenwood College in St. Louis. Throughout her career, Janet operated Schools of Dance in Joplin, MO, Altus, OK, and Neosho, MO from 1948 to 1998. Janet and Tom Weidman were married in Joplin, Missouri on December 26, 1956. In addition to her 50 year career as a dance instructor, Janet was a loving wife and mother to Tom and their three sons, Tom, John and Rick. Janet was a member of the United Methodist Church in Neosho and also enjoyed musical theatre, collecting antique dolls and travel. Throughout her career Janet often choreographed musicals for local theatre and high schools on a voluntary basis. Janet was known for adapting several famous ballets for children’s dance recitals. 

She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Tom Weidman. She is survived by her children, Tom Weidman II and wife, Michelle of Waxhaw, NC, John Weidman and wife, Marcy of Tulsa, OK and Rick Weidman and wife, Diana of Clearwater, KS; eight grandchildren, Kori Neely, Missy Westfall, Nicole Lansford, John David Weidman, Rick Weidman II, Garret Weidman, Phillip Weidman and David Weidman; four great grandchildren, James and Gracie Neely, Brayden and Brody Weidman and expecting two more in October, Bridget and Sadie Westfall; one brother, Thomas Kennedy III of Florissant, MO and many nieces and nephews. Janet will be remembered as someone who was fully committed to whatever role she played in other people’s lives; loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, teacher, mentor and true friend. She will not only be missed by her family but will be remembered by thousands of former students and dear friends whose lives she touched.
