Joe Mayfield, age 72, Joplin, passed away at 7:10 a.m. Friday, August 7, 2015 at Freeman Hospital due to a lengthy illness.
Joe was born February 5, 1943 in Blytheville, Arkansas to the late Joe Mayfield, Sr. and Wilma I. Nunnally Mayfield and had resided in Joplin most his life.
He owned and operated European Motors for 35 years, retiring due to ill health in 2005. He was an avid remote control enthusiast and, as he aged, so did his obsession with racing. What started with remote control cars carried over to racing modified lawn mowers. He was a member of R.O.A.R.; American Midwest Mower Racer's Association and the American Heartland Lawn Mowers Racing Association.
Joe married Jenny Lee Templeton on July 28, 1962 in California. She preceded him in death on November 29, 2009.
Survivors include two daughters, Leisa Edwards and her husband, Ron, Joplin, Kelly Moore and her husband, Michael, Galena; one sister, Katherine Joyce Fore and her husband, Leroy, Granby; four grandchildren, Larry, Cecily, Jennifer, Micah; and three great grandchildren, Abbey, Bryton and Caydon.
Services are planned for Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel. Interment will follow in Granby Memorial Cemetery with Ron Edwards, Larry Joe Jones, Steve Robinson, Sean Wammack, Aaron Mayfield and Adam Mayfield serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6-7:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel.
